Great job to the 415 participants who competed in our third Great Urban Race Phoenix! It was a perfect day complete with creative costumes and lots of laughter!

 

Racers made their way to the Arizona Science Center to handle sheep’s brains and cow eyeballs, molded statues at the Heard Museum, completed the dizzy bat challenge, had real cowboys teach them to lasso, donated children’s books to Save the Family, indulged in ice cream at Pink Spot Ice Cream and completed many more exciting challenges!

 

Ryan Ruddell and Christopher Baker of Team CSBP Agents finished in a remarkable time of 1:24!  Great race! Team Vasodilators crossed the finish line in 2nd place with a time of 1:54, just a few steps before Team TBD with a time of 1:56.

 

Congratulations to Team Awesome Austins who won the St. Jude Challenge. Another round of applause to Theodora Pyres of Team Not A Clue for raising the most money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Thank you to all the St. Jude Heroes from Phoenix!

 

The costume contest was a hit and an additional audience clap off was necessary to determine the winner. In the end, Team Juan on Juan stole the audience’s hearts and were crowned the costume champions as they ‘galloped’ off stage with their trophy and sashes!

 

We’d like to give a shout-out to our top family team, The Fantastic Four, who hustled across the finish line to secure 10th place overall.  Great job!

 

Thanks to all of our amazing St. Jude volunteers, Slider’s American Grill, our clue locations, and our participants.  The GUR Crew had an absolute blast in sunny Phoenix and we look forward to returning in 2011!

How did you prepare for the race?  Good night’s sleep and Starbucks.

 

What was your overall race strategy?  Don’t shave for three months

 

Did anything go wrong during the race? Nearly puking after the bat spin.

 

What was the most memorable part of the day?  Finding a lady wearing a Diamondbacks jersey just before crossing the finish line.

 

Any secrets to your success… that you'd be willing to share?  5-hour Energy-black label. It works way better than regular 5-hour Energy.

I've done a few races of this type and GUR is definitely my favorite! Good work all!

 

I was kind of hesitant since this was a first time for me, but I had such a great time I'm telling all my friends that they need to do it next year!

 

Can't wait for the next one! My friend & I are even taking about traveling to a neighboring state to do another one this year!

 

Overall, I feel it was an awesome experience and I can't wait to give it a shot next year! It was definitely worth doing and I am giving it all the "word-of-mouth" advertising I can.

 

It was a really great way to spend an afternoon. It was something completely different than anything I have done before. I will definitely be back next year!

 

This is fantastic family event!

 

It was my first time and I had a blast, heard about it in past years, just never joined. Now i regret it. I had a blast!!!! Definitely doing it again next year, and recruiting more teams!! Woo-hoo!

 

The staff was great and we'll see you again in 2011!

 

Can't wait til next year...literally! We are planning on attending the one in San Diego in October! I had a fantastic time and I am so excited about next year! Thanks again! We will definitely see you again!
