Congratulations to the almost ­200 racers that came out to participate in Great Urban Race Bloomington-Normal!  It was an awesome day, complete with beautiful weather and lots of creative costumes!

Participants navigated the streets of Bloomington-Normal and completed a variety of exciting activities!  The day included creative wedding proposals at The Movie Fan, a tea-deciphering clue at Fusion Brew, a dizzy bat challenge, tasty treats at Station 220, and more!

A portion of each participant’s registration was donated to an Illinois State University scholarship fund! Thank you to all of those who registered for the race!

It was a race to the finish, but coming in first place was Team Tuesday Night with an astonishing time of 1:44! That was a Low Blo-No was just steps behind, crossing the finish at 1:44 followed closely by The Urban Legends with a time of 1:45 to round out our top three.

Congratulations to our Top Family Team, Snap-Crackle-Pop!, who crossed the finish line at a time of 2:30. Great job!

After an intense clap-off between some outstanding costumes, the Costume Contest was won by Turtle Power, who stole the show. Thanks to everyone who dressed in costume and added to the spirit of the day!

A huge thank you to our St. Jude Top Fundraisers and St. Jude Challenge winners, Team Hawkeyes! Together all of our Bloomington-Normal St. Jude Heroes!

Thank you to all of our St. Jude volunteers, Illinois State University, Fat Jack’s, our clue locations and all of our phenomenal participants.  The GUR crew had an amazing time in Bloomington-Normal!

Have you ever participated in a GUR before?

No

How did you prepare for the race?

We checked out the website frequently and looked at the clues.

What was your overall strategy?

We tried to solve all of the clues first and then figure out the location of each and plan the most direct route.

Did anything go wrong during the race?

We didn’t get the text with the correction until after the race. We chose to skip that clue anyways.

What was your favorite clue? Why?

Our favorite clue was the proposal reenactment. The role-playing was hilarious!

What was the most memorable part of the day?

It was fun to see the community’s reaction to all of the teams scrambling around the streets in costume.

Any secrets to your success that you’d be willing to share?

We know each other well enough to know our strengths and weaknesses. We had fun with it but stayed focused at the same time.
