Congratulations to all of the participants who came out and made Great Urban Race Fort Worth such a huge success! 525 racers packed the patio of 8.0 Restaurant and Bar and enjoyed an awesome day, complete with perfect weather and lots of creative costumes!

Participants navigated the streets of Fort Worth and completed a variety of crazy activities, including touching up their hula-hooping skills with Sassy Hoops, testing their food knowledge at Gingerman Pub and satisfying their sweet tooth at Sweet Sammies.  Racers also met Linda the Bubble Lady who taught them how to make some pretty impressive bubbles and worked with their teammates in a challenging improve exercise led by Locked Out Comedy!  

A special thanks to everyone who donated much needed supplies to Jonathan’s Place.  Your donations made a huge difference and they truly appreciate your efforts!

To nab first place, We Like To Move It came dashing through the finish line at an astounding time of 1:58:01!  Directionally Challenged was right on their heels, crossing the finish line at 1:58:06! Café Con Leche came in with a time of 2:08 to round out our top three. Awesome race guys!

Congratulations to ­­­­­HEARTBREAKERS, our Top Family Team, who crossed the finish line at a time of 2:44.   Great job!

The costume contest was full of characters and the audience enjoyed a show from all of our Best Costume Nominees. After an intense clap-off between some outstanding costumes, Master Powers stole the show after “Hulking-Out” and tearing their t-shirts onstage!  Thanks to everyone who dressed in costume and added to the spirit of the day.

A big thank you to our St. Jude Top Fundraisers, Probst Toasties!  Another thank you to our St. Jude Challenge winners, The Other Situation!  Together all of our Dallas-Ft.Worth St. Jude Heroes raised an amazing total of $­­­2,956!

Thank you to all of our awesome St. Jude volunteers, Jonathan’s Place, the 8.0 staff, our clue locations and all of our phenomenal participants.  The GUR crew had an amazing time in Fort Worth and we look forward to seeing everyone again in 2011!

Have you ever participated in a GUR before?
This was the first Great Urban Race, but we have done scavenger hunts before.

How did you prepare for the race?
A little bit of running, good ground support and past experience.

What was your overall race strategy?

1. Solve clues first
2. Form our route
3. Optimize with ground transportation

Did anything go wrong during the race?
One teammate chose the wrong direction once, costing us five minutes.

What was your favorite clue? Why?
Making the bubble was a fun activity! One of us has a talent for it.

What was the most memorable part of the day?
The loud footsteps of the second place team at our backs.

Any secrets to your success that you’d be willing to share?
Know your partner!
