The mission of the Project H.O.M.E. community is to empower adults, children, and families to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty, to alleviate the underlying causes of poverty, and to enable all of us to attain our fullest potential as individuals and as members of the broader society. Congratulations to the 630 racers that came out to participate in Great Urban Race Philadelphia! It was an awesome day, complete with beautiful weather and lots of creative costumes!

Participants navigated the streets of Philadelphia and completed a variety of exciting activities! Participants designed creative team flags at the Betsy Ross House, completed a challenging boot camp session and got a lesson from Phila Massage for how to banish those post-race aches and pains!

A special thank you to everyone who donated much needed supplies to Project H.O.M.E. Your donations made a huge difference and they truly appreciate your efforts!

The first place team was Team FTW with an astounding time of 1:27! Quick Chicks crossed the finish line at 1:39 followed closely by Snapper Blues with a time of 1:42 to round out our top three.

Congratulations to Put the Biscuit in the Basket, our Top Family Team, who crossed the finish line at a time of 2:31. Great job!

After an intense clap-off between some outstanding costumes, the Costume Contest was won by the Ninja Turtles, who stole the show with their fantastic costumes. Thanks to everyone who dressed in costume and added to the spirit of the day!

A huge thank you to our St. Jude Top Fundraisers, P.A Freedom! Together all of our Philadelphia St. Jude Heroes raised an amazing total of $6,700!

Thank you to all of our St. Jude volunteers, Project H.O.ME., our clue locations and all of our phenomenal participants. The GUR crew had an amazing time in Philadelphia and we look forward to returning in 2011!

Britt- No

Jed- Yes, I was 2nd place last year.

How did you prepare for the race?

We used the Happy Hour strategy, and we went over last year’s clues.

What was your overall race strategy?

Quick, bundle challenges and parts of the city together. Start fast, and finish fast.

Did anything go wrong during the race?

We went the wrong way once.

What was your favorite clue? Why?

Any secrets to your success that you’d be willing to share?

Run the entire time, plan your route, and use some public transit.
