Nearly 500 participants boldly scurried around Portland in another fun-filled race. The Rose Festival made for an interesting afternoon, as teams were forced to navigate around and through the Grand Floral Parade route!

 

Participants found themselves cutting and pasting letters at Portland State University, solving a murder mystery, eating pizza in the Pearl District, putting plungers “through” their heads at the Saturday Market, and completing many other fun challenges

 

After the first three teams to cross the finish received heart breaking penalties, Michael Webb and Greg Bunnell of Team Chateauneuf Du Papes became The Great Urban Race Portland Champions in an impressive time of 1:19. The GUR Crew would also like to commend these two racers for donating their entire prize check to the Oregon Food Bank.

 

A big thanks to Native Eyewear, Columbia Sportswear Company, Yelp.com, Erin from Schoolhouse Supplies, On Deck Sports Bar, Spoonman Creations, Rocco’s Pizza, and all of the incredible volunteers at the event!

 

A special thanks to all the participants who helped collect  7,214 pencils, 217 packs of colored pencils, 292 packets of loose leaf paper, 226 boxes of markers, 56 boxes of crayons and 3 glue sticks for Schoolhouse Supplies!

What was your overall strategy?

 

Just finish! We took 10 minutes to make a plan. Plus, got lucky that we did things in a fast order.

 

Did you study anything before the race? If so, what?

 

A little bit, but nothing that helped. Portland landmarks, famous people, etc.

 

Did you have any arguments?

 

No!

 

How do you know each other?

 

Good friends and wine lovers.

 

Which clue did you do first? Why?

 

#11 Walk of Heroines. We were on our way to the University Student Union and found this first!

 

Do you have any secrets to your success?

 

Teamwork plus an awesome "command central."
