Congratulations to all of the participants who made Great Urban Race Tampa such a huge success! Almost 700 racers braved the rain and came to Mariasol seeking a fun adventure and wearing lots of creative costumes.

Participants navigated the streets of Santa Monica and completed a variety of unique activities, from a Miller 64 sponsored Tic-Tac-Toe clue to completing a Segway lesson, a fierce karate logic puzzle, and stomaching this year’s Feature Clue: eating a pair of “Duck Fries”, also known as duck testicles, among many other great feats.

A special thanks to everyone who donated needed supplies to the Emerson Arts and Education Foundation. They truly appreciate your efforts!

At first place Avenging Narwhals came dashing through the finish line with an astounding time of 1:45! The Fore-Runners came in a distant second, crossing the finish line at 2:15! Steady Bustin locked in third place just behind them with the time of 2:15 to round out our Top Three. These teams also receive a free entry to the Las Vegas Championship where they will compete for the $10,000 prize!

The costume contest was full of great get-ups, and the audience enjoyed a show from all of our Best Costume Nominees. After a close clap-offs in GUR History between some great costumes, Whale’s V was awarded the coveted GUR glasses and a $15 gift certificate to Mariasol! Thanks to everyone who dressed in costume and added to the spirit of the day.

Thank you to our volunteers, the Mariasol staff, our clue locations and all of our phenomenal participants. The GUR crew had an amazing time and we look forward to seeing everyone next year!

With Avenging Narwhals

Have you ever participated in a GUR before?	Yes, this was our 9th time but our first time in LA and first non-Seattle win.
How did you prepare for the race?	oogle maps, a link to public art in Santa Monica, pre looked up museums and downloaded a Santa Monica app.
What was your overall race strategy?	Figure out clues efficiently as possible, map out the route and go hard.
Did anything go wrong during the race?	Overshot Chacha Chicken and we had to back track a little bit to catch a bus but it made up for lost time.
What was your favorite clue? Why?	Segway! I had never ridden one before
What was the most memorable part of the day?	Running down the pier and dodging people the way back. My other favorite part, was blowing through the tick tack toe.
Any secrets to your success that you’d be willing to share?	Stay thirsty my friends..
