Congratulations to all participants who made Great Urban Race San Jose such a huge success!  219 racers came out to The Old Spaghetti Factory seeking adventure and wearing creative costumes.

Participants navigated through the streets of San Jose and completed a variety of unique activities, from learning how to make a pinch pot at Higher Fire Clayspace & Gallery, to tossing corks at J. Lohr Vineyard, experiencing awesome exhibits at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art and tasting yummy donut holes at Pyscho Donuts!
A special thanks to everyone who donated much needed supplies to Bill Wilson Center.  Your donations made a huge difference for youth and families in need throughout Santa Clara County. They truly appreciate your efforts!

In first place, Tractor Trump came dashing through the finish line with an astounding time of 2:40Team Gidget came in second, crossing the finish line at 2:42:02!  In third place and also our Top Family Team, Girl’s A Cookin’+2 came in just a hair behind with a time of 2:42:03 to round out our Top Three.  These teams also receive a free entry to the New Orleans Championship where they will compete for the $10,000 prize!

A big thank you to our St. Jude Fundraising Winner who was also our St. Jude Challenge Winner, Suburban Bandits!  As the winner, they are also eligible to compete in the New Orleans Championship.

The costume contest was full of great costumes and the audience enjoyed a show from all of our Best Costume nominees.  After an intense clap-off between some awesome costumes, Girls a Cookin’ +2 took yet another prize! Thanks to everyone who dressed in costume and added to the spirit of the day.

Thank you to our St. Jude volunteers, Bill Wilson Center, Old Spaghetti Factory staff, our clue locations and all of our phenomenal participants.  The GUR Crew had an amazing time and we look forward to seeing everyone next year!

CHAMPIONSHIP INTERVIEW
With Tractor Trump

Have you ever participated in a GUR before? Nope.  This is our first time!
How did you prepare for the race? Well I talked to my brother about it because he got first place in the Great Urban Race at Houston.  I also studied the clues from old races in other cities.
What was your overall race strategy? To solve as many clues as possible first, then we relied on ground support.
Did anything go wrong during the race?

We had to go to all 12 clue sights because we realized we got one wrong.

What was your favorite clue? Why? Jack Passion – The International Beard Champion!
What was the most memorable part of the day?

Catching the light rail!  It was four blocks away, but we made it right on time!  We got lucky!

Any secrets to your success that you’d be willing to share?

Yes – it helps to really enjoy solving puzzles and running!  Also, you need to be ready to improvise.
