Congratulations to the 234 racers that came out to participate in Great Urban Race New Orleans! It was an amazing day full of costumes, challenges, and crazy clues. You should all still be bragging to your friends today that you made it to the championship!

Participants took off from Oceana Grill and showed their skills by navigating the unknown streets of New Orleans. From tasting Creole Taqueria fare at Juan's Flying Burrito, to learning about the Zulu Carnival Krewe at the House of Blues, to getting inked at Mid City Tattoo Voodoux, teams left with great pictures and even better memories!

The top 8 teams that completed the Preliminary Race put their running shoes back on for a second race right after. At 2pm, sixteen participants were blindfolded and driven to an unknown warehouse where their first challenge involved melting a block of ice that contained pieces to a puzzle. After earning their clue sheet, participants used black lights to solve a murder mystery, walked on stilts, kayaked only using hand paddles, parallel parked blindfolded, and kissed a python! Congratulations to 2011 Champions, Team Vignette, who crossed the finish line at an amazing time of 2:33:50 and left New Orleans with $10,000! Congrats to Team Vignette and all of our Elite 8 teams who conquered a tough course and added to the competition!

A special thank you to everyone who donated items to the New Orleans Women's Shelter. Your donations made a huge difference and they truly appreciate your efforts!

Congratulations to Draggin' Ass, our Costume Contest winners. You guys looked great! Thanks so much to all of the teams who came out sporting awesome costumes and added to the spirit of the day!

A huge thank you to our top St. Jude Top Fundraiser, Bigs and Lil' Bigs, for raising over $3,000 and our St Jude Challenge winner, Dan Ryan Expressway. Together all of our New Orleans St. Jude Heroes raised an amazing total of over $7,000.

Thank you to all of our St. Jude volunteers, the New Orleans Women's Shelter, our clue locations and all of our phenomenal participants. Thanks for making this a successful and fun 2011 Great Urban Race season! Make sure to check out our website for our 2012 races that will be launched by the end of the month! CHAMPIONSHIP INTERVIEW
With David Bogle & Kipley Fiebig of first place Team Vignette

The first year of GUR you were extremely close to winning, and the fourth year the same thing happened. How do you feel now that you've pulled off the win?

Very relieved now that we didn't mess it up.

What was your favorite challenge?

The Murder Mystery and the overall difficulty of the race.

What's the best advice you could give to a potential GURpie who wants to win the championship?

The most important support you can have is a good phone contact to help verify your answers. We don't really use ground support.

If you could have a championship race anywhere else, where would it be?

Austin, TX

What do you particularly like about GUR that brings you back year after year?

We enjoy the clarity of the clues, the rules, and how consistently you enforce the rules.

What are you going to do with your big cardboard check?

Split it with the rest of our crew. It's not really about the money.

What the most inspirational thing you could tell someone about your philosophy on GUR?

George S. Patton once said "A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week."
