Congratulations to all of the participants who made Great Urban Race Memphis such a huge success!  150 racers came out to Alfred’s on Beale seeking adventure and wearing lots of creative costumes.

Participants navigated the streets of Memphis and completed a variety of unique activities, including a fire-themed Scrabble clue at the Fire Museum of Memphis, a food challenge at Kooky Canuck and solving a murder mystery at The Inn at Hunt Phelan.

A special thanks to everyone who donated much needed supplies to the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis.  Your donations made a huge difference to families in need and they truly appreciate your efforts!

At first place Equipo Blanco came dashing through the finish line with an astounding time of 1:24:10Sins of Memphisto came in a very close second place, crossing the finish line at 1:24:12! What would Z-Bo Do? locked in third place with a time of 1:28:01 to round out our Top Three.  These teams also receive a free entry to the New Orleans Championship where they will compete for the $10,000 prize!

A big thank you to our St. Jude fundraising winner and Challenge Winner Huguenots!  As the fundraising winners, they are also eligible to compete in the New Orleans Championship.

The costume contest was full of great costumes and the audience enjoyed a show from all of our Best Costume Nominees.  After an intense clap-off between some awesome costumes, Twisted Sisters won the prize! Thanks to everyone who dressed in costume and added to the spirit of the day.

Thank you to our St. Jude volunteers, the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis, Alfred’s on Beale staff, our clue locations and all of our phenomenal participants.  The GUR crew had an amazing time and we look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

CHAMPIONSHIP INTERVIEW
With John White and Cameron Lakin of Equipo Blanco

Have you ever participated in a GUR before? No, this is our first time.
How did you prepare for the race? We regularly run together at a local park, Shelby Farms. We brainstormed what possible clues could be. We were right on quite a few!
What was your overall race strategy? Before we ran off we checked all of the questions to map out the most efficient course.
Did anything go wrong during the race? While shopping for toilet paper at a questionable convenience store near the Ronald McDonld house, A very large woman who I don't want to mess with apparently thought I cut her in line. I paid quickly and ran even faster out of there. I left the change, that should have covered her items too.
What was your favorite clue? Why? My favorite clue was #2, the appetizer native to Quebec at the Kooky Kannuck, the answer being "Poutine." I had recently went skiing near Montreal and knew right away what it was. I really like french fries covered with soft cheese and brown gravy, so after getting my form stamped I took a fork full before I left.
What was the most memorable part of the day? When we finished we were told, "Hey you're first!" We were shocked and asked, "First what?" We entered the race to laugh, get a good interesting run in and have a good time. It was a blast.
Any secrets to your success that you’d be willing to share? Enjoy the whole process. Laugh while you are doing it. We met a lot of friendly people and can't wait to go to New Orleans.
