Thanks to the nearly 400 participants in our 2nd annual GUR Denver!  What a fun crowd!

 

Denver teams rode Monster Trikes, solved riddles, went to Boot Camp, got hats from clowns, and practiced their leap frog skills while criss-crossing the great city of Denver!

 

The 2007 Denver champs touched the finish mat in 1:31, but forgot they needed to complete two tasks for one of the clues, so they were given a 30 minute penalty. 

 

John and Marcy Beard touched the finish mat in 1:46 and had all the clues correct to come in 1st place overall!

 

 

 

Alana Foeller and Tommy McKnew of Team Capone crossed in 1:53 in 2nd place and they properly completed all 12 clues (never using their skip)!

 

 

 

Andy Colella and Jim Riesenman from Three Orange Whips also finished in 1:53 to take third place. 

 

Yellow No. 5 won Best Costume (it took eight hours to make).

The top team in the Family Division was Team Fenstermaker.

Champions Interview (Team Vignette - John and Marcy Beard):

 

What was your overall race strategy?

 

Take some time to figure out as many of the locations as possible before running - (Then go back to Coors Field later and get the one we missed!).

 

Did you study anything before the race?  If so, what?

 

We biked around the city a bit to look at artwork and familiarize ourselves with the different areas of town.  (And we ate at lots of cool restaurants!)

 

Did you have any arguments?

 

No, just occasional communication challenges.  For example, trying to determine that we were in the right place for #12 (The Dancers vs. Let's Dance).

 

How do you know each other?

 

We're married.

 

Which clue did you do first? Why?

 

#7 (king and queen chess pieces) - it was close and we knew where to find it.

 

Any secrets for your success?

 

1.  Have a good support team.

2.  Love your support team.

3.  Trust " " ".

4.  Be lucky!
