Congratulations to all participants who made Great Urban Race Virginia Beach such a huge success!  200 racers came out to Abbey Road Pub & Grill seeking adventure and wearing creative costumes.

Participants navigated through the streets of Virginia Beach and completed a variety of unique activities, from the art of Gyotaku at the Artist’s Gallery, preparing loose leaf tea at Quintin’s Tea Emporium, singing a tune at Wanna B’s Karaoke to enjoying a delicious treat from Sugar Plum Bakery.

A special thanks to everyone who donated much needed supplies to Seton Youth Shelter.  Your donations made a huge difference for teens in the Hampton Roads community. They truly appreciate your efforts!

In first place, Cureburger in Paradise came dashing through the finish line with an astounding time of 3:20! RayJen Intervention came in second, crossing the finish line at 3:40!  Sadler came in just a hair behind with a time of 2:41 to round out our Top Three.  These teams also receive a free entry to the New Orleans Championship where they will compete for the $10,000 prize!  Congratulations to Hann Clan, our Top Family Team, who crossed the finish line at a time of 4:25.   Great job!

A big thank you to our St. Jude Fundraising Winner who was also our St. Jude Challenge Winner, Cureburger in Paradise.  As the winner, they are also eligible to compete in the New Orleans Championship.

The costume contest was full of great costumes and the audience enjoyed a show from all of our Best Costume nominees.  After an intense clap-off between some awesome costumes, Brown Monkey won over the crowd by singing “Rubber Ducky.”  Thanks to everyone who dressed in costume and added to the spirit of the day.

Thank you to our St. Jude volunteers, Seton Youth Shelters, Abbey Road Pub and Grill, our clue locations and all of our phenomenal participants.  The GUR Crew had an amazing time and we look forward to seeing everyone next year!

CHAMPIONSHIP INTERVIEW
With Cureburger in Paradise

Have you ever participated in a GUR before? No. This was our first event and won't be our last.
How did you prepare for the race? Running was key, printed out bus schedule, had a friend ready to phone for questions and raised money for St. Jude.
What was your overall race strategy? Start at the farthest point and work back towards the finish. Then just run and don't stop til you're finished.
Did anything go wrong during the race? Not particularly. Our costumes were a little hindering.
What was your favorite clue? Why? Karaoke was the most fun but the toiletry donation was the most rewarding.
What was the most memorable part of the day? Crossing the finish line.
Any secrets to your success that you’d be willing to share? Be able and willing to run. It doesn't hurt to dress like Jack Bauer and Chuck Norris either. Be in shape!
