Raceday Recap:
Congratulations to all of the participants who came out and made our first Great Urban Race Sydney such a huge success! 557 racers battled the intense heat and met at The Argyle ready for adventure and wearing lots of creative costumes!
Participants navigated the streets of Sydney and completed a variety of crazy activities, from learning how to chop a wooden board at Seido Karate to ascending the wall at Ledge Climbing Centre, practicing their dance moves at Dance Central and testing their smelling skills with a scent challenge at World Bar.
A special thanks to everyone who donated much needed supplies to A Start in Life. Your donations made a huge difference and they truly appreciate your efforts!
At first place, The “A” Team came dashing through the finish line with an astounding time of 2:28! Leeches Suck came in second, crossing the finish line at 2:41! Team Petica landed third place with a time of 2:49 to round out our Top Three. Awesome job!
Congratulations to The Beach Boyz, our Top Family Team, who crossed the finish line at a time of 3:22. Great job!
The costume contest was full of characters and the audience enjoyed a show from all of our Best Costume Nominees. After an intense clap-off between some outstanding costumes, The Great Aussie Sheilas (AKA Vegemite Girls) stole the show! Thanks to everyone who dressed in costume and added to the spirit of the day.
A big thank you to CCIA, Children’s Cancer Institute Australia, for partnering with us! Children's Cancer Institute Australia relies on support from our community to raise the necessary funds needed to fight childhood cancer.
Our vision is to save the lives of children with cancer and eliminate their suffering through world-class medical research.

Championship Interview:
With Andrew Milnes & Andrew Stewart
Have you ever participated in a GUR before?
No
How did you prepare for the race?
Bought a couple of Milo bars, sun cream, spray bottles, checked the train schedule and reviewed the clues online.
What was your overall race strategy?
Worked out the location of most clues and then went to the clue the furthest away. Took public transport when possible.
Did anything go wrong during the race?
No. We were lucky with public transport connections and didn’t miss any clues.
What was your favorite clue? Why?
Tic-tac-toe. It was different to the other clues in that it gave you options to decide what you wanted to do.
What was the most memorable part of the day?
Nervously going through the clue sheet at the end to see if we had missed anything. Thankfully we didn’t!
Any secrets to your success that you’d be willing to share?
Buy a day tripper public transport ticket and plan at the start a rough route so you don’t miss any clues.
