Congratulations to all of the participants who braved the heat and made this year’s Great Urban Race Los Angeles a huge success. A total of 482 racers ventured throughout downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood and West Hollywood wearing their finest costumes and conquering crazy activities along the way.

Participants were challenged at each stop along the course. The clues included eating saltines while whistling at the popular Pig N’ Whistle, learning a karate combination at Seido Karate Hollywood Dojo and mastering the art of origami at downtown’s PYO Gallery.

Many thanks to everyone who made a donation to My Friends Place. Your contributions are very much appreciated and will make a difference in the lives of the children and youths that My Friends Place aims to help.

Our first place team, 2Legit2Quit, has been steadily climbing the ranks from previous Great Urban Races and got first place after crossing the finish line with a time of 3:01. Not too far behind was Riggings Rigs, with a time of 3:09. We Dream of Amazing Race rounded out our top three teams coming in at 3:20. All three teams will receive a free entry to our New Orleans National Championship where they will compete for a $10,000 grand prize.

A huge thanks goes out to our St. Jude top fundraiser, Gang Green! As a single team, Gang Green raised more than $5,000 for St. Jude. As the top fundraiser, they also qualify to compete in our 2011 National Championship. Congratulations also goes out to Rice Cracker, who was our St. Jude Challenge winner!

Congratulation to our first family team to cross the finish line, White Out! You guys did an amazing job.

As always, the costume contest did not disappoint. All participants had creative and outrageous costumes, but ultimately the crowd decided and the British Killer Bees prevailed. Thanks to everyone who dressed in costume and added even more excitement to the day.

A special thanks to our St. Jude volunteers, Engine Co. 28, our clue locations and all of our enthusiastic participants. The GUR crew had a phenomenal time and hope to see you all in 2012.

Champion Interview
with 2Legit2Quit

Have you ever participated in GUR before? Yes! Our first GUR was in 2008. Always in LA, we have been coming back ever since. Can't wait to go back to the Big Easy!
How did you prepare for the race? We have learned there is no REAL way to intellectually prepare for the race. Just try to get in shape and put on your thinking caps!
What was your overall race strategy? Play off each others strengths. Remind each other this is for fun and laugh at ourselves constantly.
Did anything go wrong during the race? By some miracle, we got lucky and our slip-ups were minor.
What was your favorite clue?  Why? We always love the tic-tac-toe clue because you have to rely on the kindness of strangers - those who don't think you are lunatics, anyway. :) We also loved the karate clue because it was organized, fast, and fun!
What was the most memorable part of the day? The most memorable part was probably sneaking up on the unsuspecting GUR staff at the finish line.
Any secrets to your success that you'd be willing to share?

If it were up to Hannah, we would give away the farm and she would open up an Urban Racing instruction course for all to hear. But seriously, be polite when plowing through crowds of unsuspecting pedestrians and have trust in your teammate.
