Raceday Recap:

Congratulations to all of the participants who came out and made our 5th Great Urban Race Austin such a huge success!  Despite the drizzly weather that started off our day, close to 400 participants came out to join us for what was yet another fun race filled with photos, brain teasers and baffled spectators!

Participants navigated the streets of Austin and completed a variety of crazy activities, from feeding each other spicy treats at Mighty Cone, to deciphering what regions of the world created the customized Great Urban Blend at Texas Coffee Traders.  Pedaling to .6 at Pure Austin was nothing compared to holding a cockroach at Pease Park! And of course, who doesn’t love a fake mustache – and even better, wearing it while posing with a stranger who has a real one!

A special thanks to everyone who donated much needed supplies to Any Baby Can.  Your donations made a huge difference and they truly appreciate your efforts!
At first place, Vignette came dashing under the giant Great Urban Race arch and over the finish line with an astounding time of 1:38Toocoolrunning.com wasn’t far behind in second, crossing the finish line at 1:51!  And only one minute behind second place, Werewolves -ST landed third place with a time of 1:52 to round out our Top Three.  Awesome job!

Congratulations to our Top Family Team, Best Team Name Ever, who crossed the finish line at a time of 4:22.   Great job!

The costume contest was full of characters and the audience enjoyed a show from all of our Best Costume Nominees.  After an intense clap-off between some outstanding costumes, Brother Hulksters for the Encouragement of Real American Values stole the show with their on-stage charisma and intense Hulk impersonations! Thanks to everyone who dressed in costume and added to the spirit of the day.

Thank you to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for your ongoing partnership with Great Urban Race and to all of our St. Jude Heroes who raised money and awareness about this very important organization.  Congratulation to Cobra Kai, our St. Jude Challenge Winners and to Jennifer Lish for becoming our top St. Jude fundraiser for Austin!

Thank you to all of our awesome volunteers, Maggie Mae’s for acting as our hosting venue, Chipotle Mexican Grill for providing all of our racers with free burrito cards, a HUGE thank you to all of our participating clue locations, and of course our racers.  We couldn’t have done this event without you and we’ll look forward to seeing you all back in Austin!
